A Rocha South Africa has been involved in the restoration of a portion of the Ferncliffe Nature Reserve (Pietermaritzburg, KZN) since 2007. The long term restoration project seeks to return this Eastern Mistbelt Forest back to its former glory through indigenous tree planting and invasive vegetation removal. Volunteer events during 2021 included a midwinter invasive vegetation hack, Arbor Day events, a citizen science biodiversity survey (Bioblitz) and guided walks through the forest.

During 2021 A Rocha SA joined involved roleplayers to assess the reserve for the purpose of increasing its formally recognised protected status. A process was also begun to enter into a Voluntary Association with role players for the management of Ferncliffe Nature Reserve.
